Answer: A/B testing, also known as split testing, is a method used to compare two versions of a product, algorithm, or user experience (UX) design. It involves dividing users into two groups: a Control Group and an Experimental Group. The Control Group is exposed to the current version (A), while the Experimental Group is exposed to a new version (B). The key benefit of A/B testing is that it allows us to objectively measure and compare the performance of these two versions, helping us make data-driven decisions to improve products or experiences.

Question 2: What is the difference between t-test and Z-test?

Answer: The t-test and Z-test are statistical tests used in A/B testing to assess the significance of differences between groups. The main difference lies in their assumptions and applicability:

  • t-test: This test is used when the sample size is relatively small (typically less than 30 observations per group). It does not assume that the sample follows a normal distribution, making it suitable for smaller samples with potentially non-normal data distributions.
  • Z-test: The Z-test is employed when the sample size is large (usually greater than 30) and the Central Limit Theorem can be applied to assume a normal distribution of the sample. It is used for larger samples where normality can be assumed.
